Henry Stanier Great Fen Ecology and monitoring Officer for Beds Cambs and N’hants (BCN) Wildlife Trust on “Stonechats on Great Fen” an ongoing new project about these fascinating birds.

Henry Stanier is a great friend of RNHS and is a regular contributor to our indoor and out door meetings.

Once again he gave a superb talk this time on Stonechats and in particular the monitoring that is going on as part of the Great Fen project.

He explained how the birds returned to areas of the fen and how colour ringing is helping to track which birds are in which location.

He detailed how the timing of returning birds could be an indication of subtle climate change and also reflect the benefits of the improvements that are being made to the land management.

Reference was also made to similar monitoring that is being undertaken in other areas such as Dersingham Bog near Sandringham.
